GOAL # 1 - VISIBILITY

B. CANDIDATE DEVELOPMENT

1B3 X Conduct or sponsor formal CPCU/IIA classes. All CPCU and IIA courses are offered through the Insurance Society of Baltimore (ISOB). The ISOB is a separately incorporated organization made up of Maryland Chapter members.
1B4 Conduct a marketing program to promote Candidate Membership in the CPCU Society.  Describe.
1B5 Work with AICPCU on a joint presentation or booth at a local 
company/agency office or industry convention.

C.  GRASS ROOTS ("SPREAD THE WORD" )CAMPAIGN
1C1 Establish a "Spread the Word" Committee. Provide names. 
1C2 Encourage "Spread the Word" activities by your members; describe how promoted/how ideas are shared.
1C3 Track the "Spread The Word" activities of your members.
1C4 Submit a "Spread the Word" idea to CPCU News.
1C5 X Conduct a good works project and publicize it in your local press, chaptergram and/or your website.  Describe the project and how promoted. The Good Works committee will be collecting toys for the holidays to be distributed to the Sharpe-Leadenhall School. The Good Works committee will also be organizing members to walk in the Cystic Fibrosis walk in May of 2008
1C6 Advertising in local/regional P/C or business press.
1C7 X Promote chapter educational events.  Describe how. All chapter educational events are promoted through the chapter website, e-mail blasts and the Chaptergram.
1C8 Speakers Bureau: deliver at least two presentations. Describe.
1C9 X Issue a "CPCU Excellence Award" to an individual or company and publicize it.  Describe recipient and how publicized. Employer Recognition Awards were awarded to 5 local employers during the Holiday Networking Party on Dec 18, 2007. Nominations for the award were received by Nov. 30, 2007.
1C10 X Hold a joint educational or networking activity with an insurance group in your community. The joint CPCU/RIMS meeting will be held on January 17, 2008.
1C11 Hold a joint educational or networking activity with a non-insurance group.
1C12 X Earn visibility from awarding a scholarship - describe how it was promoted and winner publicized in chapter publications and/or local press. The Maryland Chapter CPCU has joined with the ISOB to offer a scholarship to the University of Baltimore. The scholarship recipient must be enrolled in the Risk Management program
1C13 X Appoint chapter webmaster; keep current information on website. Promote website to members. Joyce Smythe is the current chapter webmaster
1C14 Promote website to others (e.g. local employers, organizations).
D. ETHICS
1D1 X Conduct an Ethics Awareness Month activity.  Describe. The Maryland Chapter will be hosting an NLI Course on Ethics in March 2008 in Hagerstown
1D2 Publish ethics article in Chaptergram or on chapter website or 
conduct ethics exercise during chapter meeting.
1D3 Ethics activity with another insurance organization (in addition to 1D1).
1D4 Ethics-related program presented to a non insurance group (students, business, civic or professional group, etc.)
GOAL # 2 - MEMBER SUCCESS
A. KEEPING MEMBERS AT THE TOP OF THEIR PROFESSION TECHNICALLY
2A1 CPD: maintain an active program to encourage and assist members to earn CPD certification.  Describe your program.
2A2 Conduct a member survey to solicit input on members' training needs, ideas for cutting edge topics, etc.
2A3 X Conduct a workshop or seminar (longer than chapter meeting) for insurance industry audience. Educational workshops were held on Dec 5th & 6th in Baltimore and Hagerstown. The full day consisted of 2 half-day sessions on Additional Insurerds and Certificiates of Insurance.
2A4 X Conduct an I-Day.   Provide details. Maryland I-Day is scheduled for March 11, 2008
2A5 X Partner with the CPCU Society to co-sponsor a technical workshop in your local area.  Provide topic and date. Workshops are scheduled for Feb and May 2008
2A6 Conduct any additional technical insurance program.  (This can be a chapter meeting).  Suggestion: consult with your governor to develop the program. Provide date, speaker and topic.
2A7 Chapter website: publish technical, leadership and/or career planning educational information on your website.
2A8 X Promote attendance at the CPCU Annual Meeting.  Describe how promoted to your general membership (just sending an officer does not qualify.) In 2008, promotion of the Annual Meeting in Philadelphia will be initiated via the website and Chaptergram.
2A9 X Conduct a Research Study and publish results to members and outside audiences. Dr. George Andrea, CPCU, a member of the Maryland Chapter is working with Peter Miller to deliver insurance education to Saudia Arabia. A memo of understanding (MOU) has been submitted to the Institute of Banking Saudia Arabia Monetary Agency. We are awaiting approval by the Saudis.
2A10 Scholarship or loan program that benefits chapter members or candidates.
2A11 Submit an article to the e-Journal.
2A12 X Submit an article to an Interest Group newsletter. Walter York has submitted an article to Risk Management interest group.
2A13 Work with your chapter Interest Group members to plan any educational program.  Give details on topic and interest group.
B.  LEADERSHIP and PROFESSIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT
2B1 X Maintain an active program to develop chapter and national leaders.  Describe your program. Note: this must be in addition to item 3A1. All officers are active participants on our Board. By being actively involved in the chapter planning process, the 1st and 2nd VPs are well prepared as they move towards their presidency. Our Board meets 5 times a year to make sure the Chapter is meeting all goals established at the Summer planning Meeting. 
2B2 Promote attendance by chapter general membership (not just send one or two persons) at the CPCU Society Leadership courses offered prior to Annual Meeting and at the Leadership Summit.  Describe how promoted.
2B3 X Partner with Society to sponsor or promote CPCU Society NLI Course (s) in your local area or at a local company.  Provide topic and date. A 2nd NLI Course on Ethics will be held in Baltimore in March 2008
2B4 Conduct any additional program focusing on leadership skills. (This can be a chapter meeting speaker).  Suggestion:  consult with your Governor to develop the program. Provide date, speaker and topic.
C.  RESOURCES FOR CAREER MANAGEMENT
2C1 Conduct a career development program at chapter meeting or other event (not just a social). Describe.
2C2 X Assist new members (tranferring or new designee) to meet other chapter members and become oriented to the chapter. Letter's sent by New Designee or Membership Chair with copy to President for additional contact. All new members are encouraged to attend chapter events.
2C3 Promote the CPCU Society National Job Network.  
2C4 Provide networking and other types of assistance to out-of-work members.  Describe.
2C5 Conduct any additional program in support of members' career development.
GOAL # 3 - STEWARDSHIP
A.  CHAPTER PLANNING
3A1 X Send chapter leader(s) to the Leadership Summit for the Chapter Leader Conference. Pres & 1st VP attend each year
3A2 X Send chapter webmaster to Malvern for chapter webmaster training. Joyce Smythe attended the webmaster training on Oct. 5, 2007
3A3 X Conduct annual planning session to establish goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Held on July 14, 2007 at the President's house
3A4 X Submit names of chapter leaders to the Society by June 1, 2008. To be sent following annual election
3A5 X Complete the Circle of Excellence Planning Checklist (or more detailed planning document); share/discuss with the membership and describe how the plan was shared. Shared at Planning meeting and each Board Meeting and posted on the website for all members to share and participate
3A6 X Send planning document to your Governor and to Malvern at the beginning of the chapter year (suggested by Sept. 30). Sent on 9/27/07
3A7 Develop a written marketing-communications plan for your chapter events (dates for press releases, chaptergrams, web update plan, marketing plan for major events, etc.).
3A8 Conduct overall membership survey to assess member satisfaction and recruit volunteers for chapter leadership positions. Publish results to members.
3A9 X Any additional chapter planning program or initiative (not used elsewhere). Quarterly Board meetings are held to plan for future events and manage the chapter activities
B.  MEMBER RECOGNITION
3B1 X Recognize your chapter volunteer leaders.  Describe. Recognition at Conferment Dinner and all volunteer leaders are listed in the website.
3B2 X Conduct a local Conferment ceremony for your new designees. Our Conferment Dinner was held on October 25, 2007 at the Columbia Sheraton. 
3B3 Any additional member recognition program (not used elsewhere).
C. MEMBER NETWORKING
3C1 X Maintain an up-to-date member database. Utilize reports via national website
3C2 X Conduct a chapter social event.  Describe.  Breakfast for  the New Designees at the Annual Meeting in Hawaii. 
3C3 Joint networking meeting with another insurance organization.
3C4 Any additional program (not used elsewhere) in support of member networking. Holiday Networking Party to be held on Dec. 18, 2007
D.  CHAPTER ADMINISTRATION 
3D1 Activity (other than meeting notice) to improve attendance at meetings or events.
3D2 Activity or program designed to locate and renew "lapsed" members.
3D3 X Activity (other than Conferment) to welcome, recognize, involve new designees. Happy Hour at That's Amore on Sept. 27, 2007 to welcome New Designees and give them an opportunity to meet other chapter members.
3D4 Activity to increase participation of retired members.
3D5 Encourage members to volunteer for chapter service. Motivate experienced chapter leaders to apply for CPCU Society service (Governor, Committee, Task Force, etc.)  Explain what was done to encourage members to volunteer for service.
E. GENERAL SUPPORT OF EDUCATION 
3E 1 X Establish or continue Loman Chapter Membership. The Maryland Chapter became a member of the Loman Chapter in 2007
3E 2 Fund/support a library program.
3E 3 Conduct an educational program or activity (other than a scholarship) with local college students (e.g. Gamma Iota Sigma chapters) or local high school (e.g. Driving Safety, Career Day, Project InVest, etc.)
